SUPPORT
Dental Therapist
The Dental Therapist is based at Manurewa Intermediate School.

Younger children are always accompanied by a senior child. If you have any queries
about childrens dental treatment please contact the clinic.
E.S.O.L
School-based support for children who have English as their second language.
Health Camp
Health Camp referrals are made through the schools Special Needs team to address
a wide range of needs.
Literacy Support Programmes
Programmes for children with special learning needs include the following:
- Reading Recovery
- Rainbow Reading
Childrens progress is closely monitored by our special needs co-ordinator and
classroom teachers.
Numeracy
Interventiont Programme
A programme for children who need
support in number work.
Occupational Therapist
Children with specific medical conditions may be referred.
On-going Resourcing Scheme
Funding is sourced from the Ministry of Education via the Special Education Service to
provide teacher aide and equipment support for children who will have long term needs.
Public Health Nurse
The Public Health Nurse
visits the school on a weekly basis and is able to refer children and
families to other medical services as needed.
Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour (R.T.L.Bs)
Our school has access to these Manurewa based teachers who work with children at school
to enhance their learning and behaviour in a wide number of areas. Two or three of these
teachers work in the school on a regular basis with children who are referred.
Resource Teacher of Literacy
An itinerant teacher who may work with children who have not made significant progress
with reading and writing through the schools own intervention programmes.
Special Abilities
Children are provided for within the class programmes. A range of extension programmes
operate each year in a number of areas e.g. Literacy, Numeracy, I.C.T.
In addition there are opportunities for children in Years 5 - 8 to participate in the
examinations run by the University of New South Wales in English, Writing, Mathematics,
Science and Computer Studies
Speech Language Therapist
A therapist is available on a referral basis through the school.
Children, Youth and Family Service
A government service that the school can access, and to which families may be referred.
Truancy Officer
All children enrolled at school must attend. Repeated unexplained absences will be
referred to the Truancy Officer for further action.
